Our Staff

Brittany Loberg

Brittany Loberg has been a key leader in some of the reshaping and restructuring our church has undergone in the past couple of years. She believes that relationships are key to our spiritual vitality. She oversees our Community Life ministry, helping people connect and find a home at Mountainside.

Bruce Nelson

Bruce Nelson is the staff guy responsible for Community Impact, “I want to see our church body become an increasingly integral presence in our community. I like to snowboard whenever I can, and I like to start my day of riding with my specialty apple and cottage cheese pancakes! You gotta taste them to believe it!”

Dustin Barden

Dustin moved to Fernie for a couple of reasons: he loves Mountainside and really wanted to be a part of our church, and he hopes to mine some coal and save some money to finish his schooling. Shawn knew Dustin's life would ooze music when he saw a young Dustin gathering water glasses in a restaurant, filling each one till they were just right. Then by rubbing the top of different glasses be played a perfect rendition of Amazing Grace to the delight of the restaurant. We are thrilled to have Dustin lead our Worship Ministry.

Kathi Temple

Kathi Temple is our Director of Youth Ministries. Seeing that some of our youth were not even born when Kathi started leading it is obvious that she loves Fernie’s youth and is passionate to encourage them to walk with Jesus. She fills up the rest of her time being a mom to two busy kids, and tackling farm chores with her husband Shane.

Kim Larsen

Kim Larsen coordinates Children's Ministries at Mountainside. Kim, her husband Chad and their three boys moved here a few years ago and are very happy to call Fernie and Mountainside "Home Sweet Home."

Kim's passion is to see the Bible's truths come alive for children in fun ways!

Leslee Valavaara

Leslee Valavaara is our Administrative Assistant (aka Queen of Paperwork). “I attempt to coordinate the goings-on at Mountainside and be an assistant to Pastor Shawn. In my little world I love to create systems and order and eventually everything becomes an Excel spreadsheet. In my "spare" time I lead Weight Watchers, keep the lifeguards on their toes while ignoring my chronological age at Masters swimming, and experience far too much excitement when the newest Staples flyer arrives.”

Nick Vandenbogerd

Nick Vandenbogerd wears several hats around the church. He is the staff person overseeing our Missions ministries. He is passionate to see us leverage our resources to make a significant gospel impact in Canada as well as around the world. He also serves with Compassion Canada.

Ramona Gliege

Ramona is passionate to see people vitally connected to Jesus. While it is hard to limit her leadership to just one area she officially oversees our Women’s Ministry. When pondering the women’s ministry she writes, “Looking back over the last few years of our ministry, it could be best described as the 7 F's: focus(on God), fellowship, food, friendship, fitness, fun and f(ph)ilanthropy.” English is not the only language Ramona can use to get her 10,000 words a day in.

Steve Warr

Steve Warr manages our Facilities. Originally from Newfoundland, Steve and his wife moved to the Elk Valley to enjoy the mountains, and to work as an engineer. Steve and Beth-Ann's family is rounded out with their two boys, Jack and Liam
